SFB Tournament

Last Update: Wednesday, January 17, 2024

The centerpiece event of the Big Bang Blowout gaming convention will be the Star Fleet Battles tournament.

The Schenectady Wargamers Association is proud to have hosted the biggest and best SFB tournament in the whole world for many years now. And as many of you know by now, this will be our last one.

Here is some basic info about the tournament. We will add to this page as we watch the signups come in and we refine the plan.

  • We will have an open Patrol format on Wednesday-Thursday-Friday of the convention (July 17-19).
  • We expect some attendees will play many games, some only one, and many of you will play some number in-between “one” and “many”.
  • You will need to play at least three games, in your current ship, to qualify for the finals.
  • If you are not happy with your record and you want a reset, you can pay $5 to re-enter the tournament. This is one of the few instances where you will need to pay an event fee above what your con registration covers.
  • All games will end by 10:00 PM on Friday, July 19th.
  • The top sixteen records will be ranked as follows, in this order:
    • Net Wins (3-0, 5-2, and 9-6 all count as +3 net wins)
    • Most games played in your current ship
      • This is the second most important factor to encourage players to play more matches. Sitting on your 3-0 record is a legitimate strategy, but it does not promote Maximum Gaming Fun.
    • Head-to-Head win/loss vs the other players at the same level
    • Strength of record of opponents
    • Die Roll
  • We will then build and post two finals trees:
    • The top eight players will be in the Captains Finals
    • The next eight players will be in the Patrol Finals.
  • Each finals tree will play out on Saturday, July 20th.
  • Three rounds of play to determine the best out of the pool of eight.
  • We will follow the most current ADB Ace Card requirements
    • The Federation TCC is allowed to have the G-Rack

We will add to this page over time. We will announce via social media, email, and blog posts when new material is added.

We hope to see many, many of you here for this final tournament. We have tables and chairs ready for 64 players, and we will find a way to accommodate more if necessary.
